UN DANTE ADOLESCENTE

The New Life (La Vita nuova) is Dante’s early work, his coming-of-age story characterized by a personal discovery of Love, which the poet learns firsthand. An inexperienced, adolescent Dante tries to grow up and love: he falls, gets back up, sometimes falls again, all the while writing, singing, and asking friends for advice. And, like any young person, he’s confused, because one day a Beatrice entered his life and turned practically everything upside down.

Incarnated by the actor, he first appears as a kind of street minstrel armed with a voice, guitar, and a desire to tell, sing, and relive his own story with passing pilgrims (the spectators). As the story unfolds, the minstrel increasingly reveals himself to be that young boy who, unprepared for a chaos of brand-new emotions, finds refuge in his own room. In this personal world, he transforms his lived experiences (through verse and music) in his own way and prepares to face the new challenges he will encounter.
