Théâtre du Gros Mécano promotes a theater of actors, words and images, fantasy, wonder, reflection and poetry; an accessible theater, open to different approaches to content and form. The company pays particular attention to original creations by offering a space for artistic research and experimentation, thus contributing to the development of a current theatricality and the influence of Canadian culture here and elsewhere.
In 1976, the founders of the Théâtre du Gros Mécano wanted to safeguard and develop a mandate that had hitherto been included in the original mission of the Théâtre du Trident: the theatrical component for children. Almost 45 years later, the Théâtre du Gros Mécano is a creative company that produces and organizes professional shows for young audiences and families in Quebec, Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
TGM was one of the first companies for Quebec’s young audiences to perform its shows indoors, in well-equipped and well-positioned theaters.
The spirit of consultation and grouping has always been an important professional motivation and, in this sense, the TGM has participated in the foundation of numerous regional and national organizations: The Périscope Theater, The Gros Becs Youth Theater, The Alyne-Lebel, La Maison United Theater and Theaters Childhood Youth; organizations that have greatly contributed to the growth and development of our discipline and of which we are still active members.
