Stephen Noonan

Stephen is a versatile performance maker, with experience in theatre, dance, circus and puppetry. Since 2011, he has focused on Theatre for Early Years (TEY), aimed at children aged 6-8, creating works that address the specific cognitive and emotional needs of this age group.

As a performer, Stephen has collaborated with numerous companies and artists, including Sally Chance Dance, The PaperBoats and Patch Theatre, performing in various countries such as Australia, the United States, India and Scotland. He has performed in early childhood shows, including ‘This [Baby] Life’ and ‘Touch & Go’, and was instrumental in the creation of ‘Boy & the Ball’, a work for 4-year-olds presented in several countries and winner of Arts South Australia’s Ruby Award in 2023.

Noonan has taught theatre and dance in arts institutions in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Sweden and has received numerous awards for his commitment to the arts, including the Australian Government’s Centenary Medal in 2000 and the South Australian Government’s Ministers of Education and Arts Award in 2008.

In 2013, he created the performance installation ‘The Special One’ for the Adelaide Fringe, which was praised for its poignant beauty. He has also participated in professional development programmes, such as a residency at the Lincoln Center Institute in the United States.
