‘I am a musician and my body is the instrument’ My name is Melvin Fraenk and I am currently interim Artistic Director and DOX Club coordinator. I am also a permanent choreographer and coach within DOX projects and productions. My passion for dance and theater started in 1996, where I worked as an actor for the first three years and founded my first dance group in 1997, which was one of the first successful dance groups in the Netherlands. Later in my career I followed the School for New Dance Development (choreography) with Urban Contemporary (dance) expertise. I have been in the profession for 26 years with the aim of blurring the boundaries between different disciplines in order to achieve a new symbiosis in which something new is created. Transcultural and transdisciplinary work are one of my core values in order to contribute to the development of art for the future. Developing artists is in my blood because I am also a self-made artist who started to professionalize myself later in life. My experience, drive, motivation and perseverance are important forces to inspire other artists to get the best out of themselves. That is why I work at DOX, because at DOX I can contribute to the development of future artists.
