Compagnia SKAPPA! & associés

SKAPPA! & associés is a theater company created in 1998 by Isabelle Hervouët and Paolo Cardona: together they design shows for “the whole audience”, aimed at children as well as the adults who accompany them. If they reject this systematic categorization of “young audiences”, it is because they have chosen to express themselves wholeheartedly, without concessions on the content, striving not to take anything away from the meaning under the pretext of a speech to the “child”.

For more than ten years they have been carrying out a real work on the razor’s edge, offering a theater of thoughts and sensations aimed at everyone, from an early age. The need to make one’s performances accessible to the youngest has become a formal challenge, a dramaturgical challenge. Being an artist and choosing to speak to the child from his role as an adult is equivalent to giving oneself the means to create tout-public in a noble sense, a theater whose intertwined levels of reading and meaning are a richness.

From his first creations, Skappa! proposed a link between the visual arts and the performing arts: the use of the image in various forms has become the very material of the stage process, an evolving image, a bearer of meaning with which the actors build a physical and sensual exchange . “Uccellini”, one of the company’s first creations, is the manifesto that lays the foundations of the Skappa aesthetic!
