The event is the result of a project initiated in 2023 with a lecture-performance of the same name, created by Anselmo with Sara Pranovi, a LIS (Italian Sign Language) performer. The exhibition investigates the relationship between pre-cinema and the oppression of the Deaf community, focusing on the period following the Milan Congress of 1880, when sign languages were banned across Europe. Je Vous Aime explores the first coercive use of cinema on Deaf individuals through Georges Demenÿ’s 1891 screenings, commissioned by Hector Marichelle to train deaf children. Through archival footage and video productions in visual sign, the exhibition denounces ableist and audist policies, highlighting the ongoing social exclusion of the Deaf community.
Open 6, 7, 8, 9 November from 10:30 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 18:30
